2023 Breeder Buyer Report From Lee & John Curtis

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

SAXON VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB

                  BREEDER\BUYER

The auction was held over a WhatsApp group as at the time of organising we had bird flu restriction which was lifted the week before, but the decision was made and we went with a leap of faith if it would work. On the Sunday I had 16 young birds(lots) and for the week after I only had a pair of my own. It wasn’t looking great. We were edging closer to the end of the first auction and the bids was flying in. More flyers took to WhatsApp and it was growing interest. The 16 lots averaged £55.00 and we had interest from Norwich & Norfolk flyers and Norfolk and Suffolk wanting in on the competition. With a complete sale list and kind donations from Jason Buckle and Steve Kaschner we Had 49 Young birds. The birds sold for £2530 and the highest being £130.00.

The Sponsorship kindly received from Harkers which donated 4 bags of Hormoform, and P&R Seeds donated 4 Bags of there All round mix. Anyone wanting to look at their products please visit them online. www.Harkersonline.co.uk and www.prseeds.co.uk.

With all money received it was down to the young bird season. With young bird sickness doing it rounds and fat eye. I’m not surprised some flyers young bird season were cut short or opting to take the shorter race just to get experience on them.

The race was held on the 26th of August from Wetherby and turned out to be a good race. The Saxon valley liberated 506 birds at 7-40. With 20 plus young birds sent for this race and some non-Saxon Valley members making a good round trip for marking. It was set up for a highly competitive race.

Thank you to all the Saxon Valley Committee for letting me organize the Breeder Buyer and all the competitor who give it a go. Selling of the young birds was different to the traditional way of a Breeder buyer and it some how worked out ok.

All the best for the 2024 season and hope everyone has a successful breeding season with little to no clear eggs.

If any club is running a breeder buyer I’m sure we can support, it. Please feel free to get in contact.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year

Lee Curtis
